New York, NY- One day shy of the 1st anniversary of the terror attacks, Tommy Boy Films is set to release "The Making and Meaning of We Are Family" DVD, a Danny Schechter documentary film. This film features a music video, directed by Spike Lee and never before seen behind-the-scenes footage and candid interviews from Sister Sledge, Rosie Perez, Gina Gershon, Steven Van Zandt, Joan Osbourne, John McEnroe, Faith Evans, Eartha Kitt, Patti Labelle, Queen Latifah, Carmen Electra, Diana Ross, The Pointer Sisters, Jackson Browne, Carl Thomas, Angie Stone, Luther Vandross, Amber, and many more.

Eleven days after the collapse of the World Trade Center and assault on the Pentagon, legendary music producer, Nile Rodgers reached out to artists, athletes, actors, celebrities, police officers, emergency workers and victims' families as a call for healing and tolerance, inviting them to take part in the re-recording of the hit song "We Are Family" that he co-wrote with his late partner Bernard Edwards. Over 200 people answered his call and added their voices and insights into the feelings, fears and hopes for unity that all Americans shared. Unlike most documentaries that covered the tragedy 9/11, "The Making and Meaning of WE ARE FAMILY" is not about what happened, it's about what lessons we can learn for the future.

"The addictive beat of "We Are Family" captured the audience at Sundance," wrote film critic Richard Roeper after the premiere. CNN added, "the spirit of hope and unity shines through." "The Making and Meaning of WE ARE FAMILY" is a Sundance Film Festival Official Selection and will be broadcast in it's entirety on Barry Diller's Arts channel, TRIO, for three airings on September 11th 2002, the first anniversary of the terror attacks in New York and Washington. The proceeds of "The Meaning and Making of WE ARE FAMILY" will benefit the We Are Family Foundation, a non-profit organization formed to promote tolerance and the vision of a global family by initiating and supporting programs that inspire and educate individuals of all ages.

"The Making and Meaning of We Are Family" will be on available on September 10th at www.wearefamilyfoundation.org or www.tommyboy.com and major retailers nationwide.
